Custom Golf Clubmaking
What I Provide in
Professionally Fit, Custom Built Golf Clubs that
"Off the Shelf, One Size Fits Everyone Brands" Don't!
I follow “the Wishon book” on golf club fitting and custom golf club building.
While the “fit” and “set makeup” for the entire set of clubs, putter thru driver, is important, each of the “groups of clubs” are fit to optimize the game improvement factors for each group, i.e., distance, accuracy, trajectory, backspin and feel. The groups are:
1. The irons, 4 thru 9, or whatever the longest iron we determine for your
set makeup;
2. The fairway woods / hybrids (long iron replacements), lofts are
determined by set makeup and as with all clubs, the golfer’s skills,
strength and ability;
3. The driver;
4. The wedges, number and types of wedges, lofts, etc, are identified;
5. The putter.
I like to get as much done as practical in 3 or possibly 2 visits. The 1st visit is divided between outdoor range time for the dynamic fitting and shop time for the static measurements so that a recommendation for heads, shafts, grips, MOI, swingweight, length, etc., can be determined. It is very important that you bring all of your clubs to the fitting session so that observations and measurements can be made on your clubs, both your favorite and not so favorite. Allow approximately 2 – 2 ½ hours for the first fitting session. From the observations and quantitative data collected, I will then build a “test club” from each of the groups of clubs before building the entire set. It is usually a week to ten days before test clubs are ready and we can have a 2nd visit.
At the 2nd visit, we swing the test clubs from each of the “groups of clubs”, whether we are building new clubs or reshafting / adjusting existing clubs. If it is possible to adjust your existing clubs, it can usually be determined at the first visit. As each test club is “tweaked / optimized” then a “blue print” develops to which the remainder of the clubs will be built / reshafted / adjusted.
On the 3rd visit the entire “finished” set is worked through for final adjustments, if any, e.g., dynamic lie for the irons and wedges, etc.
Cost for the fitting is a one time $60. Range balls are purchased separately, directly from the driving range. We work between the repair shop and the driving range. Maps are on my web. They are just a couple miles apart.
Cost for the clubs varies depending on the head and shaft that best optimize your game improvement objectives. Generally speaking, a set of custom fit and custom built golf clubs will cost, in terms of dollars, about the same as an “Off the Shelf, One Size Fits Everyone” brand.
I custom fit and custom build golf clubs with the player for whom the clubs are intended. I use well designed heads and shafts that contain the fitting specifications required to improve your golf game. Your professionally fit, custom built golf clubs are meticulously assembled one club at a time, just for you.
Please observe the 24 hour cancellation policy when scheduling your sessions.

Tom Wishon builds his heads and shafts to exacting tolerances and then identifies the "swing profile" each shaft/head could match. The "swing profile" of the person being fit, as measured by the clubmaker, is then easily correlated to the appropriate "swing profile" of the equipment designed by Tom Wishon Golf Technologies. This is just one more detailed point that ameloriates the fitting process "In Search of..." the best performing golf equipment for YOU.

OK, Sometimes it's not the "arrow".

Anyway, the clubs I build are not "Clones / Knock Offs". "Clones / Knock Offs", are clubs that have Titleist, Callaway, Mizuno, Cleveland, Adams, etc., (I'll continue to add to this list of off the shelf equipment...it's necessary so my advertisements will pop-up when people search the web) stamped on them but they were actually forged in someone's backyard or something pretty close to their back yard. The point is, these "cloned clubs" did not come from Titleist, Callaway, or some other off the shelf equipment company, with their design spec's, type of metal to use, forging and manufacturing tolerances intact. They aren't original designs...they are just copies / forgeries / clones / knockoffs of someone else's original design. The specification they are most concerned with is the correct spelling, or a spelling that is close to, the off the shelf name being copied.

"You Can Buy A Better Game!"
Talk about a "bad idea becoming a big idea". Click for more on "bad ideas becoming big ideas". As an instructor and clubmaker I could easily mount my "soap box" over their article. But I trust there will be many clubmakers responding, so I'd like to mount the proverbial "soap box" as a caddie. I've caddied at some of the most prestigious private golf clubs in the Dallas-Ft Worth area for member events as well as some of our local pro-ams. Most of the "blue bloods" at some of these clubs and at the pro-ams are worth millions, some billions. Money is no object. They have the latest and greatest from their pro shop or the local "big box retailers". So, as a caddie, when I look at the shot results (that means when I'm off in the weeds trying to find their balls) of those that think they can "buy a game" and those who can't afford that "game improvement notion" (they are playing with last years off the shelf model)...the shots are indistinguishable! Imagine that!
